Why
Even if you are not an alcohol drinker, if you are in Antwerp visiting and you’ve got 2 hours to kill, a visit to the Brewery De Koninck is definitely a must. What’s really impressive is that, after the renovations they made, they turned it into one of the coolest Museum in Antwerp. They have moved part of the production out of town and kept a part of it while sharing it with the Museum areas.
This beer who everybody knows as Bolleke, because of its glass shape (like a bowl), became the symbol of Antwerp. An interesting part of the tour is definitely the video explanation (both in EN and NL) of most of the beer glasses in Belgium, this takes place in a cool room that looks like the inside of a beer glass.
What
For a 14€ ticket you get to hear and see the story of the De Koninck beer, which is so far one of the best Antwerp-made beer to try. You also get a token to use at the end of the visit, to taste whatever you want at the bar that is at the end of the museum. There are many good beer to try in Antwerp, but De Koninck is one of the best: it’s no coincidence they plan one festival a year to celebrate it, right in the city centre. Don’t forget to check out the souvenir shop at the end and the Bakery just outside the yard. The audioguide is not worth renting, all the descriptions and subtitles under the videos are in english.
Don’t miss the little De Koninck Van-ride to take at the middle of the tour.
