Why
There are plenty of places in the city centre that serve macarons, but LaDurée beats them all. These French little sweets pleasures are absolutely the best in town. Surely more expensive here than in any other chocolate/candy shop, but definitely worth it. The peculiarity of this little shop is that is located in a very charming old building in the heart of the most luxurious shopping street in Antwerp and the amazing interiors together with the macarons pyramids all over the place. Also don’t forget to look up while walking in the shop, you cannot miss the beautiful blue sky painted on the ceiling.
What
Unclear are the origins of the famous French dessert called macaron. It seems they were produced the first time in Venice, then brought to France by Caterina de’ Medici’s Italian chef. According to some other sources these delicious desserts were produced the first time in France in 1791. The truth is that LaDurée became the world’s best-known premier sellers of the macaron in 1862.
